Holly's Story
In June 2023, 12-year-old Holly West was diagnosed with metastatic Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive soft tissue cancer. After enduring 9 months of chemotherapy and 6 weeks of daily radiotherapy, we were hopeful that she was almost in remission. But just as we thought we had turned a corner, a new mass appeared on a scan.
In April 2024, we learned that Holly had relapsed just one month after finishing her treatment. Doctors started second-line chemotherapy, but only two months later, Holly's condition progressed to leptomeningeal disease, a rare and devastating complication where the cancer spreads to the meninges surrounding the brain and spinal cord. The doctors told us Holly had only months left to live.
Through it all, Holly fought with incredible strength and courage. But on October 4, 2024, she peacefully passed away, leaving a legacy of love, hope, and determination.
The Birth of Holly’s Heroes
Throughout Holly's battle, we saw first hand the incredible impact that fun and uplifting experiences had on her. The support from charities made a world of difference, providing Holly with joy, laughter, and moments of normality during a difficult time. Emma, Holly’s mum, was deeply moved by these acts of kindness and decided to give back in honour of her daughter’s memory. In November 2024, Emma began working on registering a charity to continue this work. Holly’s Heroes became an official registered charity in February 2025.
Our mission is clear: to bring moments of happiness, fun, and joy to children and families affected by cancer. By offering experiences that create lasting memories, we aim to bring light into their lives, just as Holly experienced during her battle.
Losing Holly was absolutely devastating but with her determination to give back after receiving so much throughout Holly's battle Holly's Mum, Emma, was the one with the vision.
After being on this journey John witnessed first hand the impact fun experiences had on Holly and also wanted to try and make a difference and bring some emotional relief to others suffering as Holly did.
