Life as a teenager is meant to be filled with possibilities, milestones, and new beginnings. But when faced with a cancer diagnosis during these formative years, everything shifts.
Suddenly, life revolves around hospital visits and treatments, and the challenges can extend far beyond physical health. Education, body image, relationships, and mental health can all be deeply impacted.
Education: Hospital stays, treatments, side effects, and fatigue make attending school, college, or university incredibly difficult. Many young people struggle to keep up with coursework, miss exams, or even have to delay their education entirely.
Body Image: The physical changes caused by treatment—such as hair loss, weight fluctuations, and scarring—can significantly affect a teenager's confidence and self-esteem, especially when they are still developing their sense of identity.
Relationships: Long hospital stays and the emotional toll of treatment can strain friendships and relationships. Many teenagers feel isolated or notice shifts in their social circles, as cancer and its effects on daily life bring about challenges that others may not fully understand.
Mental Health: The combined pressures of physical health challenges, uncertainty about the future, and the emotional impact of the other changes can lead to heightened stress. Anxiety, depression, and other mental health struggles often emerge as young people try to cope with their new reality.
These experiences can alter the course of a teenager's life in profound ways, but with your help we want to try and give some fun 'normal' activities to show these heroes that they can have some enjoyment and experience laughter even during the toughest times.
This event will be an invite only event as it coincides with Holly's 15th Birthday (Our first birthday without her).
